Habemus AI Act !
On March 13, the Members of the European Parliament adopted, with a large majority, the regulation governing artificial intelligence systems, with 523 votes in favor, 46 against, and 49 abstentions.
Next steps: The Council will formally approve the regulation, and an official linguistic revision will be carried out.
Entry into force: The regulation will come into force in April or May 2024, following its publication in the Official Journal. The provisions on banned AI will apply six months later.
Full implementation: According to the current schedule, full implementation is planned for 2026.
Compliance tips: Groundbreaking in its kind, the text, whose final version is accessible here, follows a long and complex implementation path. Given the importance of the issues and the lack of pre-existing framework for compliance, it is strongly recommended that providers and users of AI systems do not delay their compliance until the transition period after the regulation comes into force.
